Someone had their phone out at a press screening of EVERYTIME at Cannes about two people down from me and after the fifth time they pulled out a phone (they had a smartphone and a flip phone!!), I leaned over Robert and the other guy and said “arrête!” in the sternest French accent I could muster and they stopped for the remainder of the film.
not even joking, at a NETFLIX PREMIERE screening for Office Romance, several people on their phones either editing photos, texting, emailing for more than half the movie. ON FULL BRIGHTNESS!!!! STOP OR THEY’RE GOING TO POUCH OUR PHONES.

OK no at the Regal I went to growing up about 15-20 mins into the movie there would ALWAYS be an usher who came in with a bright orange wand like a traffic cop
I only have a good experience at nighthawk which has no phones and people get kicked out for it. Parents are terrible with phones in shitty kids movies and it’s like guys … you are not teaching your kids well, you’re just zoning out. This generation of parents are particular phone monsters, it’s weird.
I was very brave a few weeks ago when I asked someone to put their phone away during HOKUM, but it certainly took me out of the movie for 10 minutes as I worked up the nerve 👼🏻
It’s always nerve-wracking! Not to mention the very real possibility that people could be armed or otherwise violent. I don’t like that we have to advocate for security guards (bc it SHOULD be safe) but this is the reality of the situation

Nitehawk is amazing as are many other independent films but the multiplexes however….
