beyond the artistic merits of shooting in public, it's also giving these movies SO MUCH free advertising. i'd bet you that more people have heard about the Devil Wears Prada 2 through all these social media posts/pap walks than the initial announcements.
This is my fav thing I’ve read in a long time!!! Movies filming like this are literally bringing the people together and I also am personally way more invested in seeing the final product after seeing some of these memes. I’m in these streets having a blast!
I'm glad this is happening. Maybe the trend of filming on location in LA will become a practice again. BTW, I am beginning to feel, when I'm watching a CGI'ed movie/trailer, that I'm watching a cartoon instead of a live-action movie. I love the Avatar movies, but I felt that way watching the trailer for Avatar Fire and Whatever. CGI is supposed to create worlds, sets, backdrops as if they were real and the audience is meant to buy into that, but more and more those effects look like animation as opposed to creating a real-world feeling (at least, to me).
I completely agree. Maybe we’ve spent enough time with the CGI technology that we’ve grown out of it. Or maybe they’re making it look cheaper these days idk. I was struck by how bad the new Jurassic World looked, despite shooting in some real locations
this is everything to me, there was one scene in a complete unknown filmed in my tiny town in NJ and that made me more excited about that movie than any promo or trailer. i love movies
i've lived in new york for four years and it still gives me butterflies when i see the haddad's trucks pulling up! i briefly fell for the overexposure slander but came to the realization that if i don't want to see a million videos of anne hathaway filming devil wears prada 2, i can simply...put down the tik tok (speaking of touching grass haha). I love this post, you are so right about the context of the costuming. i can't wait to see spiderman!!

Omg need to know which scene! I love this
caught stealing should be shooting in my neighborhood every summer for the rest of my life. downtown will never be the same to me
One could argue every Austin Butler project should film in your neighborhood always…
Wow this feels so special. Like Mother Nature back at it again 💖
