

Hi everyone. A quick letter today inspired by the above quote from Isabelle Huppert, une vie pour jouer. I wanted to share a few notes from four recent moviegoing experiences to remind myself that no matter what mood I’m in, my day is better after a few hours at the movies.
11am Saturday, The Last Showgirl dir. Gia Coppola, Curzon Soho
When I visited London in February I had a few hours to kill on a Saturday and it was too rainy to do any real sightseeing. I saw that Pamela Anderson was in town to screen The Last Showgirl at the Curzon Soho and ran to get a ticket. I love a theater that’s in the middle of a busy city street where people can waltz in spontaneously to see whatever’s showing. I got (very good) popcorn and a Sauvignon Blanc in a plastic wine glass. The theater was incredibly packed and everyone was dressed fancy. One complaint about the moviegoing experience in the UK is the amount of commercials (not even trailers) before movies, really ruins the mood.
